Akvega’s geosphere is primarily composed of vast oceans dotted with small islands, which are home to the colony’s settlements. The planet's unique geological features and limited land area have shaped its resource extraction methods and overall economy.
Akvega’s scattered islands vary in size and topography, creating diverse ecosystems across the planet. The main geographic zones include:
ISLAND CLUSTERS: The islands are grouped into clusters, each with a distinct blend of flora and fauna. These clusters support various types of settlements, from fishing villages to trade hubs.
CORAL REEFS: Surrounding many islands are expansive coral reefs, which support a wide range of marine life. The reefs are essential to the local ecology and serve as natural breakwaters, protecting the islands from erosion.
DEEP SEA TRENCHES: Akvega’s oceans contain deep-sea trenches that host unique ecosystems, often explored for scientific research and mineral resources.
UNDERWATER CAVES: Many of the islands feature underwater cave systems, which are rich in biodiversity and occasionally used as storage or refuge during storms.
ROCKY ATOLLS: Isolated atolls serve as nesting grounds for bird species and are sometimes visited by Akvegans for resources like bird eggs and guano, used as fertilizer.
The geology of Akvega is characterized by a mix of sedimentary and volcanic formations. The islands contain several key natural resources:
METALLIC ORES: Despite limited land, some islands contain deposits of copper, nickel, and other metals. These are mined in small quantities and are essential for local manufacturing and trade.
SALT DEPOSITS: Salt is a major export from Akvega, with extraction sites on several islands. Sea salt is harvested directly from ocean water and processed for both consumption and industrial use.
PHOSPHATES: Found in seabed sediments, phosphates are essential for agriculture on Akvega and are carefully managed to ensure long-term availability.
VOLCANIC ASH: Islands with volcanic activity produce ash that is rich in minerals. This ash is used in construction and agriculture, contributing to soil fertility on the islands.
PRECIOUS CORALS: Coral reefs are carefully harvested for rare, colored corals used in jewelry and ornamentation. The trade is regulated to prevent overharvesting and protect the reefs.
