Each colony’s spaceport infrastructure plays a central role in regulating space traffic, facilitating trade, and ensuring security.
Spaceports are essential components of space administration, acting as inspection points for customs, immigration, and regulatory compliance for all arriving and departing vessels from the planetary surface.
CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION: Spaceports serve as the primary inspection points for all incoming and outgoing travelers and goods. Each vessel is subject to customs inspection to ensure adherence to trade laws, tariffs, and restrictions. Immigration services are also based here, processing new arrivals, granting work permits, and ensuring compliance with planetary and interplanetary migration policies.
TRAFFIC CONTROL AND SECURITY: Spaceports regulate all spacecraft movements in and out of the planetary airspace, managing flight paths and scheduling for both civilian and military ships. Traffic control ensures safety and efficiency, coordinating docking procedures and departures. Security operations at spaceports are handled by the Space Administration, in coordination with the Security Trade Guild, to enforce no-combat zones and protect against illegal activity such as smuggling or unauthorized landings.
DOCKING AND MAINTENANCE: Each spaceport is equipped with docking facilities designed to accommodate a range of dropship classes, from small shuttles to freighters or transports. Maintenance facilities are available to provide routine checks and repairs for spacecraft. Certified maintenance teams handle essential upgrades and repairs, ensuring all vessels meet space travel standards before departure.
CARGO HANDLING AND STORAGE: Spaceports serve as major points for the transfer and storage of cargo between spacecraft and the colony. Large cargo bays and storage facilities are available for temporary holding, ensuring the smooth transfer of goods between ships and ground transportation. Specialized staff ensure that hazardous, perishable, or sensitive cargo is handled according to regulatory standards.
PASSENGER SERVICES: Spaceports also cater to passengers, providing terminals with lounges, ticketing offices, and boarding gates for civilian travelers. Spaceports are designed to support both long-distance travelers between colonies and local travel within a planetary system. Services include security screening, information kiosks, and transportation links to other parts of the settlement.
In specific cases, private spaceports may be authorized for industrial or corporate use. These spaceports are typically located near large-scale industrial operations such as mining sites, manufacturing plants, or other high-demand areas. Private spaceports operate under strict regulation, with limited access only to contracted spacecraft, ensuring they remain part of the overall space traffic control network.
